Hanne Claes is schitterend vierde geworden in de finale van de 400 meter horden op het EK in Berlijn. Ze kwam met de traagste tijd naar de finale en liep eerder vandaag al de 4×400 meter, maar er zat blijkbaar nog energie in de tank. Claes klokte 55″75.

Vanuit baan zeven koos Hanne Claes voor een stevige start, maar niet zo hard als bij eerdere gelegenheden dit seizoen. De Leuvense had echter nog een prachtige laatste rechte lijn in petto, die haar op de vierde plaats bracht. Het goud was voor de Zwitserse Lea Sprunger in een tijd van 54″33, goed voor de beste Europese prestatie van het jaar.
